Into That Good Night – A Poem by Rowe Williams

Original Word: ἀγωνίζομαι
Transliteration: agónizomai
Definition: to contend for a prize, struggle
Usage: I am struggling, striving (as in an athletic contest or warfare); I contend, as with an adversary.

from Strong’s Concordance
The feeling of your body
struggling for Life
as Death insinuates itself
into the marrow of your bones.

The instinct to preserve, perpetuate,
inflict
yourself on oblivious universe,
kindled by the Foe.

The mutual causality of
Life/Death,
codependent enmity driven by hunger
for lover's embrace.
